University of Texas Graduation Photos on Film | Claire M

There’s just something fun about shooting UT grads on film – especially when mixing 120 and 35mm. Medium format gives you those super clean, detailed portraits, while 35mm brings all the grainy, in-the-moment energy. Claire’s session was the perfect mix of both.

I used 120 for the big UT landmarks where we wanted everything crisp and glowing. Then, once we got into the walk-around moments – through the greenery, between locations, all the real laughs – I switched to 35mm. It’s lighter, faster, and perfect for catching the good stuff that happens in between poses.

Her outfits worked beautifully on film too. Soft textures and neutral tones always translate well, and the variety made it easy to switch between formats.

We wrapped at the fountain with the classic champagne pop, and of course 35mm came out again. It handles movement like a champ and always gives me my favorite chaotic-happy frames.

If you’re planning your UT grad session and want a mix of clean portraits and natural, lively moments, shooting on both 120 and 35mm film is the way to go. I’d love to help you create a gallery that feels easy, fun, and totally you!
